During one summer day in the year 1827, the Frenchman Joseph Nicephore Niepce was able to achieve the creation of the first image that was fixed by working on it for 8 hours.

His compatriot, Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre on the other hand was able to lower exposure time to a period of less than 30 minutes as well as preventing the captured image from disappearing.

An Austrian named Paul Vierkotter is credited to be the first person to invent the flashbulb. He used a wire coated with magnesium which was placed in a glass globe that was vacuum sealed. This was later replaced with an aluminum foil inside an enclosure filled with oxygen.

The flashbulb became commercially available in the year 1930. It was patented by a german national, Johannes Ostermeier. The flashbulbs were called "vacublitz". General Electric, a company engaging in suh ventures made their own version which was termed "Sashalite".

You can take instant pictures using a polaroid camera. This type of camera was created by Edwin Land. His work on photography enabled a new age in photography wherein pictures can be obtained instantly. The exposure time was no longer a factor.

When I think about photography I think about a medium that is a visual form of expression. According to the objective; it can express a commercial or artistic idea. For me personally, photography is an artistic form of expression, a wonderful way to submit an idea quickly - within seconds by visual means.

There is something fascinating about how humans perceive their environment. For example we judge a persons likeability within a fraction of a second. So studying and understanding the complex way in which an individual perceives the world around them is a great tool. It enables the photographer to communicate ideas without using words. This gives the persons viewing the image the freedom to interpret the photo in the way that is unique to them and the photographer the ability to cross boundaries of geography, sex, age, race and even education. .

In conceptual and artistic photography technique also serves as a tool to express ideas. This technique can be as simple as a box with a hole that has photographic paper inside, or as complicated as the mountain of equipment found on a professional shoot. Whatever emphasizes the initial concept behind the photo and the idea is perfect. .

Photography for me is an example of the way in which I perceive my environment; I try to express my feelings about my world via my photos. It is a process in development, changing as I grow. It enables me to stand back, to look and learn about other people, cultures and places. My subjects are personal and at the same time they refer to the whole of humanity, how we are slotted between family, society, environment and politics and how that shapes us.

Photography is the lense that is helping me to grow and develop as a person and I hope through sharing this journey; I am able to affect and enhance the lives of others too.

- The film Its job is to record the image the camera operator sees by chemically recording the pattern of light from the image. A film has a collection of tiny light-sensitive grains that record the light by chemically reacting to it.

- The camera body Basically, exposing light to the film is not enough to get a picture. The film also needs to be protected from being exposed too long to light. A camera is a sealed box with shutter between the lens and the film; the shutter controls the amount light that comes in through the lens.

Too much light exposed to the film means the picture will look completely washed out, and not enough light exposed to the film will produce photos that are too dark. A conventional camera also has a part called a diaphragm and a shutter speed the photographer can control.

* How does a digital camera work?

A digital camera works much like a conventional camera. It has a series of lenses to focus light to create an image of an object or scene. However, instead of using film to record the light emitted by an object, it uses a semiconductor device that records the light electronically.

A digital camera is much more convenient if you want to email your photos to a friend, because you can produce instant photos without chemically processing the film, printing it onto photo paper and then having to use a scanner to email it.
